National Registry for the Treatment of Medical Dermatologic Conditions with Cosmetic Modalities

A collaborative initiative from the Northwestern University Department of Dermatology and the AACD Research and DEI Committees

Although restorative cosmetic dermatologic procedures are performed routinely, research is often limited to case reports and case series. High quality, multi-center research is important in order to characterize treatment techniques and patient selection for optimal efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction.

The AACD Research and DEI Committees are currently partnering with Northwestern University to create a nationwide registry to collect de-identified data on the various ways that cosmetic treatments – injectables, lasers, and energy-based devices – are being used to treat medical dermatological conditions, including:

  • Non-scarring alopecia
  • Scarring alopecia
  • Autoimmune connective tissue diseases
  • Skin and soft tissue cancers and precancers
  • Disorders of pigmentation
  • Follicular disorders
  • Genodermatoses
  • Lymphatic disorders
  • Papulosquamous and eczematous dermatoses
  • Pigmented birthmarks
  • Restorative oncodermatology
  • Scars that limit function
  • Ulcers and slowly healing wounds
  • Vascular lesions
  • Vesiculobullous disorders
